A reader reached out asking for our advice on what to wear as a golf spectator. She is joining her husband on a business trip to watch the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. #luckyduck. We love helping our readers out and got to work! Luckily, Jen has lots of experience on the golf course and provided inspiration for our golf course fashion looks.
What to Wear While Watching Golf
The Details:
Sleeveless Lacoste Top: this classic sleeveless Lacoste top is perfect for looking sporty and stylish. The polo style fits in perfectly on the golf course and the sleeveless look will prevent any ugly tan lines. #nogolferstanhere. Even better, this shirt is currently 40% off! This top is golf course fashion at its best!
Gingham Skort: The exact skirt pictured above sold up before this was published, boo, but I found several that are equally as cute. This Madewell gingham skirt is a steal and all sizes available from Nordstrom Rack! Other similar items: Skirt, Off the Shoulder Dress, and these aren’t gingham, but stripes are just as cute!
Paisley Shorts: If you’re looking to make a statement, these are your shorts! The pattern and colors give these paisley shorts a modern look that we love. Bonus that the shorts are so versatile – they are cute with sneakers, wedges, or heels. Another great example of golf course fashion.
Tech Skort: You would never know this skirt is technically a skort! Made of a stretch, nylon blend, the skort is water resistant and contains built-in UPF 50. The skirt also has two side pockets, as well as a little key pocket under the built-in shorts.
White Tretorns: you might think the golfers are the ones burning calories while playing, but spectating involves following the players to different holes and requires lots of walking. We’ve never been to Pebble Beach, but a comfortable tennis shoe is a practical choice no matter where you’re watching. These white Tretorns are ultra-comfortable and on trend.
Neutral Wedge: our reader mentioned she likes a little height in her shoes, so a wedge is the way to go. Wedges are comfortable to walk-in and the neutral straw material makes these shoes easy to mix and match.
Baseball Cap: if you’re going for a sportier look, this baseball hat is adorable with any of these outfits.
Straw Visor: this straw visor will help protect your face from the sunshine and bonus points for being cute! This one is from Amazon and they have tons of other choices too.
Chambray Shirt: the weather at Pebble Beach can be unpredictable so it’s a good idea to have a layering piece. This shirt looks cute whether you need to wear it or keep it tied around your waist.
Day Two Watching Golf
The Details:
Vineyard Vines Dress: This sleeveless Vineyard Vines polo dress is the epitomy of golf course fashion. It has a preppy vibe, but keeps a modern look with the white racer stripes down the side. Add a baseball cap and tennis shoes for a sportier look or keep it casual with sandals and sunglasses.
Patagonia Racerback Dress: Patagonia never fails in making sustainable clothing that is practical and stylish. This dress is available in the blue color pictured, black, and red – it’s selling out quickly at nordstrom.com, but is fully stocked at dickssportinggoods.com and patagonia.com. Because the dress is cute, quick drying, and wrinkle resistant, it’s not surprising it is so popular! It is equally appropriate for a grocery store trip or on the golf course!
Lily Pulitzer T-Shirt Dress: This dress is perfect a perfect day to night option! The soft cotton makes it ultra comfortable and the white trim accents on the neckline make it more special than a typical t-shirt dress. It is equally cute with sneakers or wedges.
Wide Leg Pants: The blue and white striped pants pictured are from the Gibson x Sugarplum line at Nordstrom and come in and out of stock. Vineyard Vines has similar striped pants if it’s a chillier day and you need a pants option. These pants look great with the sleeveless polo for the golf course and can be dressed up with a cute white tank for the evening.
Black Cropped Pants: I happen to own these cropped pants from Lululemon and can vouch for their versatility. They are extremely comfortable and can be dressed up or down. Pair it with the sleeveless polo shirt for the golf course or with a graphic tee for a comfortable travel outfit. Seriously love these!
Day to Night Options and Layering Pieces
The Details:
Our reader has a few business dinners planned and asked for clothing options for that. Some of the dinners will take place at the golf course so we wanted to provide a few day to night options.
One Shoulder Jumpsuit: Jumpsuits are a great option if you aren’t sure how dressy you should be. This jumpsuit is a perfect choice that fits in whether people are wearing dresses or are a little more casual. The asymmetrical neckline makes it extra special. The jumpsuit is available in black, navy, or white and all three colors are cute.
Sleeveless Sweater: This sweater is a steal from Target! The fit is perfection and looks much more expensive than it is. We included this sweater because it’s cute with white jeans and would also be adorable with the black lululemon crops.
Romper: This romper is a versatile choice for an outfit that would work well on the golf course and also out to dinner. It would be adorable with these Tory Burch sandals or with heels for a dressier look.
Lily Pulitzer T-Shirt Dress: As mentioned above, this dress is perfect for dinner after watching the golf tournament!
Barely B Tip: While this dress looks cute on any body type, I find the white trim detail and neckline help give the appearance of cleavage to those of us who need some help in that department!
Flounce Hem Dress: This simple dress is perfect for an afternoon outing that may stretch into dinner plans too! It’s also available in a beautiful botanical print.
Jean Jacket: Don’t forget your trusty jean jacket in case the weather turns cool! I just ordered this one because I love the updated light color.
White Long Sleeve Shirt/Sweater: This is technically a long sleeve t-shirt, but also looks like a sweater. The perforations are super cute and this would be a great layering piece for the golf course.
Belt Bag: Have you gotten on board the belt bag trend yet? Nope, it’s not called a fanny pack anymore, these functional bags are on trend again with their updated name of “belt bag”. 🙂 This is seriously a great option to keep your hands free while you are walking the course! You can’t be on a golf course without supporting the beer cart! 🙂
Rattan Cross Body: A cross body bag is a nice option to keep your hands free on the golf course and also works as an evening bag. Love all the options Amazon offers on these rattan purses.
Earrings: Don’t forget the finishing accessory pieces like necklaces and earrings! Check out this post for a variety of great summer earring choices from Amazon. All of the options there will work with any of these outfits!
