My hunt for the perfect fashion sneaker started months ago when I stumbled upon a pair of Golden Goose Sneakers that caught my eye. The only problem was that I couldn’t get over the hefty price tag that came along with them. I mean spending almost $500 on a pair of sneakers was crazy, right!? Well… after months of debate, I am the proud owner of a pair of Golden Goose Deluxe Brand sneaker and I love them! Now, some of you are probably thinking I’ve have lost my mind or I’m out of touch with reality to spend that kind of money on sneakers. But let me tell you about my journey (a.k.a. mental justification) to the Golden Sneaker and answer the question: Are Golden Goose the best fashion sneakers?
Could Golden Goose sneakers be the perfect sneaker for me?
The back story on this started years ago as I developed a pet peeve for super white sneakers. I know it sounds weird, but I have long skinny legs and size 9 feet so when I plop on a super clean, white pair of sneakers it looks like I have a spotlight shining on my feet. With sneakers becoming so fashionable, I was on the hunt for a pair, but didn’t like any on my feet. When I spotted the first pair of Golden Goose, I fell in love with the distressed look. I continued to notice them in stores, on fellow bloggers and fashion forward friends. But that price tag…OUCH! Even Amy thought I was crazy for even talking about it. As time went on I started thinking about them more and more, wondering if they would look cute on my big feet…could I have found a cute pair of shoe that didn’t make me look like Gumby? 😂
I ordered a pair of Golden Goose!
One thing I dislike more than super clean sneakers, is buyer’s remorse. It’s the worst when you finally buy something and then wish you didn’t. To avoid that, I took my time, looked for a pair I loved, and then stalked all the sales to find a deal. I was not having any luck finding the perfect pair so I went to my second option, and ordered a pair of GG dupes from Amazon. I felt good about the price ($25) but was not sure about how the quality would be. Well, they arrived and were super cute until I tried them on and the size 9 that I ordered fit more like a size 6. That evening, frustrated (and maybe a glass of wine or 2 down) I started my search again and ran across a distressed, low top, white, and wait for it…GLOW IN THE DARK pair of Golden Goose sneakers. The best part was they were ON SALE. The sizes were limited so I jumped up, grabbed my credit card and ordered them! I was so excited!
Are They Worth the Price?
The day after I ordered them I started to feel bad, was I having the dreaded buyer’s remorse? I could get 3 pair of normal shoes for that price. I figured I would wait and see once they arrived and I could always return them if I didn’t like them.
The next night we had dinner at Amy’s house and I got a text around 7 p.m. that my Golden Goose sneakers were delivered. We were dying to check them out so we sent the kids to my house on the golfcart to get them. When they arrived I ripped open the box and I swear I heard tiny angels sing when it opened. Haha. I immediately tried them on and for a second hoped that I would hate them so I could return them and buy something cheaper. Instead, it was like Cinderella and the glass slipper, they were perfect and I loved them. They were everything I had been looking for!
They fit pretty true to size. Usually I am in between an 8.5 and 9 so according to the Golden Goose size chart, they recommended size 39. They fit on the wider side but have a low profile so they don’t appear too clunky. I will say that because they are genuine leather it does take a few times to break them in, especially if you wear them sockless. They are very comfortable and since they are already distressed, you can’t hurt them!
How to style your Golden Goose.
I love a comfortable, relaxed look and Golden Goose sneaker fit right in with that. You can wear them with everything from jeans to day dresses – they would be cute with any of the day dress options here and styled with any of these black dress looks. Here are a few of my favorite looks:
Similar look as the Golden Goose but without the price tag.
Amy and I went on a search for other sneakers that have the same cute look as the GGs but are a better price point. We found some good ones!
We will start with the most expensive of the bunch, the P448. They are so cute and have the same distressed, relax look as the Golden Goose. They come in a ton of colors and we liked the gray suede on top. We also loved the pink sole and the little pop of animal print on the back. SO cute! FYI, we thought they ran about a half size small.
Next up were a great find from JCrew, They also have the pop of leopard print on the back and are very comfortable. They were a little on the heavy side compared to the others, but not bad. Love the black laces, and given all the animal print we are seeing for fall they would be a great transition piece.
Another great pair are the Tretorns. These cute sneakers made the cut to Amy’s closet. She loved the slightly elevated heel and thought they were lightweight and comfortable. They are a great fit, with cute suede detail and a timeless look! Tretorn has been around forever so Amy liked that it has a similar vibe to Golden Goose, without trying to be a total dupe. We found they run about a half size large.
The last pair we just found and wanted to include are these.
Steve Madden just came out with this sneaker, designed by some of our favorite influencers. We both ordered them, but they won’t arrive until Oct. 18. You can save 20% using code FRIENDS10.
The Answer is…
I LOVE mine! They are one of the few things that I have purchased over the years that brings me JOY!
So are Golden Goose worth the money and better than all the others? The answer is, The Perfect Sneaker is ultimately the the one that fits your foot and budget the best!
